1. EKA G3 Swingblade - The Best Hunting Knife 2020
- Einrastende Swingblade Klinge
- Optimale Härte (ca. 56 HRC)
- Inklusive Messerscheide
- 203 Gramm schwer
In my opinion, the best hunting knife 2020 comes from Sweden. The EKA hunting knife G3 with a unique swing blade offers you two blades in one hand knife – a clever idea with many advantages.
This is how the hunting knife works in practice: the blade can be rotated at the push of a button and then automatically engages again. The locking mechanism is extremely stable so that you can use the hunting knife safely.
The entire blade is made of 12C27 stainless steel with a hardness of around 56 HRC. I think this hardness is optimal for an outdoor knife, because: The blade can be sharpened easily on the go – but remains sharp for a relatively long time.
While the tip of the main blade is very sharp, the break-away blade offers you the exact opposite. With this combination, the EKA hunting knife prevails over the competition.
The handle is made of plastic and offers you several advantages in the area. First of all, thanks to the bright color, the hunting knife is easy to recognize, which can be useful if the knife falls into the meadow for example in the dark.
The plastic handle also offers you a very good grip. Due to the fine grain, you hold the hunting knife safely in your hands even when wet. The thumb recess also offers very good grip, but there is no thumb protection: If you should slip, nothing stops your hand in front of the blade.
Another point of criticism concerns the attachment of the cord. Although this is very practical, it is shaped unfavorably. If you want to ram the knife into something with one blow, only this small point hits the palm of your hand. In my opinion, there is a design flaw here that EKA could have avoided relatively easily.
A robust Cordula knife sheath with belt clip is included. The advantage: You can wear the knife on the belt without first leading the belt through the attachment. This clip attachment is therefore very practical – and still holds securely on the belt.
The EKA hunting knife is not exactly cheap. But overall, the knife offers good value for money. If you still need a hunting knife and a knife, you have killed two birds with one stone with this knife!
Vorteile
- Scharfe Klinge & wertiger Stahl
- Einzigartig austauschbare Klinge
- Inklusive hochwertiger Messerscheide
Nachteile
- Relativ hoher Preis
- Griff mit spitzem Endstück
2. Böker Magnum - The Affordable Hunting Knife
- Ansprechende Optik
- Gute Preis-Leistung
- Griff aus Palisanderholz
- Inklusive Lederscheide
Are you looking for an inexpensive hunting knife that still stays by your side for a long time? Then the Boker Magnum hunting knife should be extremely interesting for you.
The blade shape is just perfect for any outdoor adventure. The knife is a total of 22 cm long, the blade alone 11 cm. With a weight of around 150 grams, the knife lies comfortably in the hand and is easy to guide.
The handles of the hunting knife are made of tropical rosewood. In my opinion, the hunting knife looks really very high quality. This wood has very fine pores, which makes the surface of the knife very smooth.
Please note before buying that the appearance of your knife may differ from the product photo. Wood is a natural material, so the grain and colors are different for each knife.
So that you don’t accidentally slide your hand over the sharp blade, the handle has a very safe thumb protection. You can therefore work safely with this large outdoor knife. The Boker hunting knife is made in the full tang construction. This makes the knife very robust and durable.
The stainless 440A steel is in the lower middle class – the blade does not rust and can be sharpened. You can’t expect much better steel at this price anyway.
The scope of delivery also includes the matching leather sheath with a snap fastener. In my opinion, the dark leather fits perfectly with the natural look of the hunting knife.
My conclusion: This hunting knife is well suited for any outdoor activity. The knife is handy, not too long and convinces with an excellent price-performance ratio. Beginners in particular do everything right with this inexpensive hunting knife.
Vorteile
- Großes Parierstück
- 11 cm lange Klinge
- Gute Preis-Leistung
- Hochwertiger Holzgriff
Nachteile
- Nicht der beste Klingenstahl
3. Victorinox Hunter XT - Best Pocket Knife For Hunter
- Große feststellbare Klinge
- Mit Gurtenscheider & Säge
- Mit einer Hand bedienbar
- 11 cm langes Taschenmesser
Now I want to introduce you to a Swiss Army knife from Victorinox, which was specially designed for hunters. You will find a total of three different blades on this pocket knife, a large woad blade, a belt cutter, which can also be used as a break-away blade and a saw.
Of course, the corkscrew, which is used after the successful hunt, should not be neglected.
I want to say a few words about the big razor blade first. It is very sharp and also has a rounded tip.
The large oval thumb holes enable you to open the two blades with just one hand – even in the dark, cold and with gloves. This is a very important property in the area.
I also like the ergonomic handle shape very much. However, the thumb holes just mentioned unfortunately make the hunting pocket knife somewhat unwieldy. The dimensions, on the other hand, are suitable: the hunting knife is 11 cm long and only 2 cm high.
The obvious disadvantage of a hunting folding knife: cleaning and maintenance is much more complicated than with normal hunting knives. With a foldable blade, you should not only clean your knife for hygienic reasons, but also so that the blades can be moved properly. Some oil is also needed.
The blades of the Swiss Army Knife can be determined, which in my opinion is a basic requirement for working safely with a survival knife. Unfortunately, the mechanism in this case is not stable enough for very rough work.
I would therefore only recommend this hunting pocket knife from Victorinox as an outdoor pocket knife and for hunting smaller game. You have all the important functions on board and the price is perfectly acceptable at well under 50 euros.
Vorteile
- Ergonomischer Griff
- Vielseitige Funktionen
- Sehr gute Preis-Leistung

4. Puma La Cabra - High Quality Hunting Knife
- Olivenholz Griffschalen
- Rostfreier Hochleistungsstahl
- 10,2 cm Klingenlänge
- Inklusive Lederscheide
Now we come to a rather high-priced hunting knife from Puma. This handmade knife called La Cabra is a solid one-handed knife for hunters. This powerful hunting knife lies very well in the hand and is just as suitable for rough work as for fine tasks.
The knife was made in the high quality full tang construction. The handle scales are made of olive wood and impress with an appealing look. A stainless steel gag protects against unwanted slipping.
The highlight, however, is clearly the 10.2 cm long blade of the hunting knife. The stainless steel 440C is used for this knife. Thanks to this high quality material, you can bring the knife to an extreme sharpness.
A knife sheath made of saddle leather is included for your belt. Despite the relatively high price, this hunting knife is worth it because it is durable and perfectly equipped for outdoor activities.
Vorteile
- Full Tang Bauweise
- 10 cm lange Klinge
- Griffschalen aus Olivenholz
Nachteile
- Hoher Preis
5. Linder Bowie Knife - Big Hunting Knife
- 20 cm Klingenlänge
- Rostfreier 440A Stahl
- Hirschhorngriff
- Breites Parierstück
That is a knife! With a blade length of 20 cm, the Linder Bowie knife Made in Germany is ideal for catching game and other rough work in the area.
This blade is also made of 440A stainless steel. Thanks to the full tang design, you can expect a long service life.
Not only the long blade immediately catches the eye. There is a beautiful stag horn handle on the blade with a wide crossguard. This prevents the product from penetrating too deeply.
Are you interested in the Bowie knives or would you like to know what makes the Bowie knives so special? Then take a look at my detailed article about the best Bowie knives.
In my opinion, the Linder hunting knife is very interesting for both collectors and hunters. Of course, a knife sheath made of leather is included.
The Linder Bowie knife is also available with other handles and blade lengths on Amazon. I am sure that the right hunting knife is also there for your requirements.

How to spot a good Hunting Knife?
Unfortunately, I have to disappoint you right from the start: There is no such thing as the ultimate hunting knife.
That is also logical, because all of these hunting knifes are made for a wide variety of applications. So how to find the perfect fit for you? I will help you with a compact hunting knifes buyer’s guide.
1. The shape of the blade
The drop point blade shape – the typical hunting knife
This blade shape is common not only on hunting knives, but also on other outdoor & amp; Survival knives. The slightly curved back of the blade creates a pointed blade that can penetrate the material to be cut much more easily than, for example, a kitchen knife. The blade is solid and forged. As a result, this type of knife is well suited for rough tasks, such as chopping branches. Thanks to the pronounced belly, the knife is also suitable for fine work.Clip-Point blade with fillet – sporty outdoor knife
The clip point blade shape is even sharper and sharper than the drop point shape. As a rule, the Bowie knives and heavy survival knives are equipped with this blade shape. With such a knife, all sorts of work can be done – the blade is very easy to use and multifunctional. A fillet in the upper part of the knife is optional. This can either be completely “punched out”, but also only “hinted at”. Even though this recess is often called a blood groove, it does not serve to allow the game’s blood to drain. With some survival knives, the gutter can also run to the tip – then one speaks of a track tip. The purpose of the fillet is to save weight – while maintaining stability. Of course, this also improves the handling of the survival knife. Now there are the special hunting knives, which are always made for very specific tasks. In practice, however, it is usually the case that hunters use a high-quality hunting knife for all three tasks – or use a pocket knife with different blades.Hunting knife for interception
Interception is killing a wounded game. A wounded animal should be released as soon as possible – and that is why there are special hunting knives. A dagger-shaped blade is usually used. A long blade is usually required when catching game. This should be 18 to 20 centimeters long, tapered and sharp on both sides. In addition, a strong quill is required, as well as a non-slip grip surface. Of course, the width of the blade is adapted to the size of the animal: the larger the animal, the wider the blade must be. In theory, a different blade shape is also possible – but the dagger works best.Hunting knife for breaking up
Breaking open means taking out the game. The hunting knife, which is used to break open, has a rounded and therefore less sharp tip so as not to accidentally injure the internal organs. There are of course also special blades for breaking up game. In my drawing you can see two special features. First of all, a ball is attached to the tip of the blade – this does not damage the innards of the killed game. In addition, a breakaway knife usually has a lead shaft that can be used to easily separate the sutures. By the way: Experienced hunters usually use the normal hunting knife to break open and put their index finger on the tip of the blade for safety.Hunting knife for skinning
A particularly sharp butcher knife is used for skinning. However, this is not required for hunting and is therefore not carried with you. The skinning knife, also called Skinner, is usually less than 10 cm long and has a rounded blade tip. This prevents the skin from being injured by stings. If the Skinner is also suitable for breaking up game, a drop point tip is recommended.2. The blade material
The blade material of your hunting knife is decisive for the quality of the knife. The steel used can be adapted to the purpose of the knife through the composition of the materials, the manufacturing process and above all the heat treatment.
If you want the blade of your hunting knife to last as long as possible, the following three conditions must be met:
1. The right hardness for your hunting knife
The harder the blade, the better? It’s not that easy!
A blade with 57-60 HRC is recommended for hunting knives (because of the easier regrinding).
In case you don’t know how the hardness of steel is determined: I have summarized everything about the Rockwell hardness of knives in a detailed knowledge article. There you will of course also learn in detail how the hardness of the blade affects the properties of the knife.
2. Blade strength
The more fine-grained the blade, the sharper the blade can become. The strength of the steel also determines the flexibility of the blade.
3. Resistance to corrosion
A hunting knife is exposed to wind and weather and quickly gets dirty. So that the blade does not rust even after a round in the dishwasher, at least 13% chromium is required in the steel.
I have summarized more about the advantages and disadvantages of a stainless knife blade here.
As you can see, there are a few things to consider when making a hunting knife. It is not without reason that good hunting knives are priced high. The blades are elaborately manufactured, but in return are sharper and more durable than the competition.
3. The hunting knife handle
Most hunting knives have a handle made of wood, horn, leather or plastic. But before I get into the material of the handle in detail, here is an important detail that you must pay attention to before buying: There are various techniques with which the blade can be connected to the handle. The variant shown is the most durable.
As you can see, the metal of the blade is also fully integrated in the handle. In this case, the handle material is securely fixed with rivets or screws. With cheaper knives, material is saved and only a thin middle part of the blade is pushed into the handle and then glued.
As you can imagine, the cheap version increases the risk that your hunting knife breaks under extreme loads, for example on a bone. In addition, it quickly happens that your knife heats up in the sun so much that the adhesive loosens and the blade gradually slips out of the handle.
Below is a brief overview of the different handle materials. Actually, this topic has almost become a real science. I have therefore written you a detailed article about knife handles.
I want you the biggest pre – & amp; Briefly explain disadvantages from my experience. You should not neglect the handle of a knife when making your purchase decision – the handle decides about good handling and safe working in the area.
Knife handle made of wood
A wooden knife handle has several advantages. First of all, the appearance always plays a big role when buying a hunting knife. A wooden knife handle can collect plus points here. Thanks to the fine grain and the large selection of colors, the material is in great demand.
It is important to note that the patterns on the handle are of course always different. It is therefore completely normal for your knife to look somewhat different from the product image.
The disadvantage of a hunting knife made of wood is the longevity. No matter how well the wood has been prepared for the weather conditions: wood is a natural material and will change over time. In particular, moisture and moisture affect the material.
With a wooden knife handle you should also pay attention to an ergonomic shape, because in most cases the handle is relatively smooth. A wide crossguard, a thumb guard or a non-slip shape make it extremely useful for safety reasons with a hunting knife with a wooden handle.
Horn handle
A handle made of horn is, of course, highly regarded by hunters and gatherers. Visually, the hunting knife makes the best impression with a horn handle – but of course it’s a matter of taste.
In most cases, the horn is carved with a structure so that the knife lies securely in your hand. This is a great advantage over the handles made of wood, which is even more important especially with large hunting knives.
Of course there are different types of horn and bones. Hirschhorn is used in most cases. Of course, the following also applies here: The horn on the product images will differ slightly from your knife. You have a hunting knife in your hand, which is guaranteed to be unique in this world.
The biggest disadvantage of a hunting knife with a horn handle: you can no longer clean the knife with hot water, especially not in the dishwasher. A hunting knife with a horn handle is therefore not particularly easy to care for.
Hunting knife handle made of plastic
The manufacturer has many options for a plastic reef. Before buying, you should make sure that the handle has an ergonomic shape and a non-slip structure.
Otherwise, plastic has of course the advantage over wood and horn that it does not deform even after many years. It is also resistant to moisture and sunlight. Furthermore, the plastic knife shells have a weight advantage.
A plastic handle in bright colors, for example neon orange, also makes a lot of sense for an outdoor knife. Thanks to the eye-catching coloring, you can quickly find your knife again if it gets lost in the wild.
What I personally don’t really like about a plastic handle is the “cheap” look. The knives just don’t look really high quality – a plastic handle is still practical.
You could also say that a plastic knife handle is actually the most suitable for practical reasons, the cheapest, but it doesn’t look good for it.
There are of course many other exotic handle materials, which you will find primarily in collector’s knives. Are you interested in the different types of handles? Then read on here.
4. Fixed vs. foldable blade
Most hunters use a hunting knife with a fixed blade in the area. It is safe and easy to work with. In the cold it can be difficult to open the folding knife with your gloves. In addition, a folding knife is much harder to clean than a normal hunting knife.
A hunting pocket knife also has some advantages. First of all, of course, there are the versatile functions that are very useful in the area. In addition, a folding knife can easily be stowed in the jacket pocket, for example – and generally takes up less space.
In any case, the hunting folding knife should have a lockable blade. Only then can you safely carry out the various tasks with the knife.
The Best Hunting Knifes 2020 - My Conclusion:
There are many different hunting knives because they always have to do different tasks. For this reason alone, in my opinion, there cannot be the best hunting knife.
Due to my detailed hunting knife purchase advice, you should now know what you have to pay attention to before buying. Check out what I think are the 10 best hunting knives on Amazon.
When buying a hunting knife online, however, always make sure to find the right blade length. The hunting knives usually look very similar on the product images.
Otherwise, I hope you enjoy your new hunting knife – Waidmannsheil!
